I Was Chosen to Restart Humanity

Humanity is dying—or at least that is what Nia Arden has been told. When the Continuity Directorate selects her as one of twelve people supposedly capable of rebuilding the human race, Nia is taken from her mother and transported beneath the ruins of civilization to Eden, a hidden city built for generations that do not yet exist. But the other eleven candidates are nowhere to be found. Children already live inside Eden. Human settlements supposedly wiped from the map are still alive. And Project Genesis has been watching Nia since long before the world began to collapse. The deeper she searches, the more terrifying the truth becomes. Genesis was never created simply to save humanity. Its architects intend to redesign it. Disease can be removed. Violence can be reduced. Dangerous traits can be screened away. But once scientists are allowed to decide which traits make a person worthy of the future, where does improvement end—and obedience begin? Caught between the people who want to control Genesis and those who would rather destroy it, Nia must decide what should survive: the technology that could save millions, the freedom that makes humanity unpredictable, or a carefully engineered future where no one is ever allowed to make humanity's old mistakes again.
